AI and automation

Business and careers

Six habits that stop most attacks

Use a password manager

One unique, long password for every account, stored in a manager you protect with a strong passphrase.

Turn on multi-factor sign-in

Start with email, banking, and anything that holds customer data. Prefer an authenticator app or security key over text messages.

Update everything

Phones, computers, routers, and plugins. Turn on automatic updates where you can.

Back up and test

Keep one copy off-site or offline, and restore a file once to prove it works.

Slow down on messages

Urgent requests for money, gift cards, or logins deserve a call back on a number you already trust.

Limit access

Give people and apps only the access they need, and remove it when the job ends.

Using AI safely

AI tools are useful and they handle your data. A few rules keep that safe.

  • Do not paste passwords, keys, or customer records into a chat.
  • Read what an AI tool or plugin can access before you approve it.
  • Keep a person approving anything that sends, spends, or deletes.
  • Check where your data is stored and who can see it.

Small business security review

A practical check of your accounts, devices, email setup, and backups.

  • A prioritized list of fixes, most important first
  • Plain-language explanations, no jargon
  • An AI use policy for you and your team
